From 1983 until 1985, Mr. Trascher was Construction Manager
for Perez Architects and their subsidiary, Lafayette Land
Company, based in New Orleans, Louisiana. At that time, Perez
Architects was listed in the Top 200 architectural firms in
the U.S. Projects included a seventeen-story hotel, an aerial
tramway crossing the Mississippi River, a historic restoration
of a factory into commercial space, an outpatient surgical
center, and a retail commercial center.
During 1985 until 1990, Mr. Trascher worked within a family
of related companies. He began as Project Manager for 700
South Peters Corporation, a real estate development subsidiary
of Yankee Bank of Boston, then went to the parent company
Yankee Bank to analyze real estate projects that were requesting
construction loans or had non-performing loans, and ultimately
worked as a troubleshooter for the CEO of Yankee Companies,
a publicly traded holding company with operations in energy,
environment and finance.
Mr. Trascher was a part of Yankee Companies when Yankee changed
the corporate name to National Environmental Group. Assignments
while working directly for the CEO of the New Jersey-based
National Environmental Group included closing down operations
of a national demolition and asbestos abatement subsidiary
based in College Park, Georgia and selling a national hazardous
waste volume reduction subsidiary based in Folcroft, Pennsylvania.
The aerial tramway project involved obtaining approvals from
32 separate regulatory agencies; using a French and an American
contractor, briefly closing the Mississippi River to commercial
traffic, and completion in 220 days to coincide with the 1984
Louisiana World’s Fair. The 285 foot high tramway carried
over 2.8 million riders during the World’s Fair.
The 700 South Peters project involved renovating a six-floor
casket manufacturing company into 93 luxury condominiums.
The completed project received awards in 1986 from the US
Department of the Interior as “exemplary” involving
Historic Restoration. Mr. Trascher was recognized in Landscape
Architecture Magazine for the project. The six-month schedule
was completed only two days before a repeal of the investment
tax credit went into effect, thereby allowing the limited
partner investors to share a $2.5 million tax credit.
